SYNOPSIS: Recent research has demonstrated the importance of sponsorship, in complement to mentorship, in the progression to the top. Fiona will discuss why this is so critical to Canada as well as the characteristics of a good sponsor.
SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY: Fiona was named Managing Partner, Vancouver and Western Canada in January 2011. She also assumed the role of Chief Inclusiveness Officer at the same time. For the past year, Fiona was Managing Partner, People, and prior to that she served as Americas Chief Operating Officer, Tax. Fiona joined Ernst & Young's South African firm in 1983, immigrated to Canada to join our Calgary Tax practice in 1987 and relocated to Vancouver two years later to build our Western Canadian commodity tax practice. Fiona became a partner in 1991 and was appointed Managing Partner of our Canadian Tax practice in 2005 -- the first woman among the Big Four firms to hold such a position.
Fiona is a member of the firm's Executive and Operating Committees. She is a member of the Executive Committee and is a Governor of the British Columbia Business Council. Fiona is also on the Board of Directors of the Canada Forum of the International Women's Forum. She was previously a member of the cabinet of Pathways to Education™, an organization that helps young people in disadvantaged areas to complete their high school and post-secondary education.
